Potential Estate - after ‘Scanlan’s Monthly’, 1971
During the course of its presentation in KMSKA from April till September, ‘Passing-Through’ a pavilion-like structure of the American artist Joe Scanlan, was operated by Potential Estate as a site / context from which the collective will develop CABINET JURINO, a pre-museal story, or is it a game, in which a snake takes center stage. Jurino is the name of a Hopi priest who gave Aby Warburg (the founder of iconography, Hamburg, 1866-1929) a cosmological drawing with a snake at its center. It was Potential Estate’s reanimation of the serpent : Red on Yellow Kills a Fellow, is a unique floor piece representing the coral snake from Arizona.
Looking through MuHKA’s collection, Potential Estate came across one artist whose contribution to Cabinet Jurino became invaluable : Jimmie Durham.
